As we move our way into fall, it becomes time to ditch the music we listened to while driving with the windows down and tanning on the beach. Many people opt for more subdued, calmer songs as the soundtrack for their daily life.
I asked some University of Maryland students what their top song pick is this season and why, along with some of their other favorites to match the leaves changing and the air getting cooler. Most responses were similar in genre, including chill, indie selections.
““Campus” by Vampire Weekend is my favorite fall song because it’s a good vibe to walk on campus and listen to “Campus”. Some of my other favorites are “Talk Too Much” by COIN and “blind” by ROLE MODEL,” said freshman communication major, Skyler Klein.
Freshman biochemistry major Grace Ganoe says ““evermore (feat. Bon Iver)” by Taylor Swift reminds me of fall weather.” Another song she mentioned was “Sweater Weather” by The Neighbourhood.
“‘Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac is the perfect song for a cozy vibe and walking across campus,” said freshman journalism major, Samantha Cohen. “I also really like ‘Dark Red’ by Steve Lacy.” Both of these songs have a solid beat that is easy to catch on to and enjoy.
Every song mentioned by the students I talked to are perfect to settle down on a chilly day with a Starbucks pumpkin spice latte, or to make the early morning walk to class go by faster. I would have to say that my favorite song that matches the season right now is “Stick Season” by Noah Kahan. Some other songs I have on repeat this fall are “Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac, “Meet Me in the Woods” by Lord Huron, and “Heading South” by Zach Bryan.
On your next walk across campus, take a listen to this playlist, which includes all the songs mentioned in this article. Also, be sure to check out other songs picked by Spotify on their “fall feels” playlist, which includes more songs by Noah Kahan, Zach Bryan, and Fleetwood Mac. It also features lots of Ed Sheeran, Bon Iver, Taylor Swift, the 1975, and more. Both of these playlists are sure to get you in the spirit of the season.
