A Letter from the Editor
Welcome to The Campus Trainer!
My name is Kira Ivarsdottir, and I am extremely honored to be the editor-in-chief of this University of Maryland student-run publication where our magazine focuses on everything from music and entertainment to beauty and campus life with so much more. Our writers, social media team, photographers and section editors, are extremely passionate and talented journalists who have taken time out of their schedules as students to dedicate their work to this publication. With their work we are able to publish, pitch, and write stories that are not only exciting but also stories that matter while demonstrating a mature and innovative method of reporting.
The Campus Trainer is a stepping stone for many UMD students who are new to the journalism world and we are proud to be a place where students can learn about news writing and foster their journalism career on campus. Whether you are just starting as a freshman at UMD, studying journalism or a student who wants a space to write something meaningful, please feel free to email [email protected] to get started!
Best,
Kira

Kira Ivarsdottir is a sophomore journalism student with a concentration in psychology at UMD. Growing up in California her whole life and recently moving to Los Angeles, Ivarsdottir longed for a college education on the east coast where she could pursue her dream career in journalism which led her to UMD. She started on The Campus Trainer as a freshman as a staff writer and quickly found a love for not only the publication itself but also for lifestyle storytelling. Ivarsdottir is also the lead producer of WMUC’s Drop the Pop radio show where she picks music and discusses all things pop culture. Through taking classes at the UMD Philip Merrill College of Journalism and devoting time to various journalism extracurriculars, including The Campus Trainer, she has solidified the idea that journalism is her passion. When she is not trying to restrain herself from putting exclamation points in her emails to The Campus Trainer staff, Ivarsdottir loves to read, draw, bake and listen to Olivia Dean.
