‘Tis the season for bright string lights, hot chocolate, and spending time with friends and family.
There is always somewhere to go to enjoy the season. UMD's campus has bake sales and musical performances, but the DMV offers so much. Choose from ice skating, light gardens, Christmas festivals, etc.!
Further down on Campus Dr. is the Herbert Wells Ice Rink. It is a large indoor ice skating rink. An excellent place for you to take your mind off work and have fun. Don’t forget your UMD ID because College Students pay $3!

Silver Spring Outdoor Ice Skating Rink provides a musical outdoor skating experience with nearby restaurants and stores. Music is playing while you glide on the ice or with some help from their penguin aides.

After purchasing a ticket, the skater has a one-hour and 20-minute time limit. Open Monday to Friday from noon to 10 p.m. and weekends from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. It's located at 8523 Fenton St, Silver Spring, MD 20910. A 16-minute drive and a 41-minute bus ride. “They definitely have a lot of fun, and we see a lot of… large families and extended families coming,” said Hill.
Up north of College Park is Baltimore’s Authentic German Christmas Market! There will be vendors, food and beverages, fun activities, rides, tastings - only if you are of age - and more. Open from Nov. 19 to Dec. 24. It is closed on certain days: Dec. 5, 6, 12 and 13, but otherwise open on Sunday to Thursday: 11 a.m. and Fridays to Saturdays: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
