Thanksgiving outfit inspiration

By Britta Miller

With most students returning home for break, you might find you need some inspiration to revamp your wardrobe from Zoom outfits to something fit for the Thanksgiving table.

Traveling back to colder weather? Be sure to bundle up in this cozy combo. Plus, this outfit can be worn all day and is perfect to snuggle up in after the feast.

This look can be easily achieved by thrifting! Upcycling clothing is sustainable and by supporting sustainable businesses you are making a better choice in the name of fashion! Thrift stores like Uptown Cheapskate have lots of oversized sweaters and a leggings selection of name brands, but at a fraction of the price. Check out the Uptown Cheapskate in College Park before you leave for break! With a large college population in the area, the store stays up on trends and has a wide selection of items.

Geavona Durant is a senior fashion design major at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. She’s also a Style Advisor at Aritzia located in Georgetown. Artitzia is an upscale fashion boutique founded in Canada.
“I believe the fashion trend this Thanksgiving is going to be all about comfort and being cozy cozy cozy,” Durant said.

Freshman business major Sophia Karas also agrees with this trend, and plans to wear a sweater and leggings.
“I think most people will be dressing comfortable this year since it seems like most people will not be having big family gatherings but instead just spending the holiday with immediate family,” Karas said.

The Casual

The easiest of outfits, this is an essential for a casual Thanksgiving with family or even  friendsgiving.

Junior community health major Gianna Brown plans on playing it safe and staying home for Thanksgiving.
“I think there will be a lot more casual outfits this year for college students and in general as not everyone is going home to celebrate with family,” Brown said.

For a casual outfit like this, try American Eagle for some comfy mom jeans and cardigans.

The Sophisticated

Combine some classic fall colors for a sophisticated look that will be sure to impress. Add some dangle earrings to stand out, but avoid any jewelry on the top since the skirt does most of the talking in this piece.

This skirt from Marshalls brings all the fall vibes without breaking the bank! You can find a very similar skirt on Romwe, but definitely try to avoid fast fashion if you can! Try thrift stores or even post an “in search of” ad on a community Facebook page.

The Sleek

Show up to dinner looking ready to walk the runway. A slightly baggy sweater compliments the flashiness of the pants for a softer look.

Brown said she plans on wearing a sweater, jeans, and booties for Thanksgiving.

“Trying to somewhat dress up will help make things feel more festive and normal,” said Brown.

While these Free People jeans are simply adorable, they can be pretty pricey. Try these Amazon flare jeans for a great look and cheaper price (I have the Amazon jeans in black and I am obsessed with them)!

The Trendy

Nothing says fall like layers, so try dressing it up with some classic plaid. No need for extra jewelry in this, since the sweater hides the neck and the detailed zipper provides a modern touch to this otherwise relaxed look.

This dress was purchased at Forever 21 and is available in three different colors. The sweater can be found at Garage Clothing.

They say there’s no place like home for holidays, so wherever that may be, make sure your style reflects you. The best kind of fashion is your own confidence.
