Alexa, play “Sweater Weather” by the Neighborhood - it’s that time of year.
Even though the current Maryland weather is not exactly freezing, University of Maryland students are still finding ways to fashionably and comfortably integrate sweaters into their attire. Freshman architecture major Andrew Meyer prefers his sweater outfits to be less rugged and more clean-cut.
“When I wear sweaters, I tend to wear blue or black jeans on the skinner side with no rips,” Meyer said. “I’m definitely more of a fan of the neutral colors when it comes to sweaters, and I don’t normally wear coats, hats or scarves with sweaters but I do appreciate the look.”

Neutral colors during the fall are a common favorite for this time of the year, and Kimberly Kong agrees with this sentiment. Kong is a full time lifestyle blogger, social media manager and freelance photographer who runs her own website. In terms of the color of her sweaters, she has a wide range of favorites.
“I love bright colors as much as the next, but I've been big into beige, gray and black as of late!” Kong said. “I always make sure there's balance in all of my looks, and that goes for anything. For example, if I'm wearing a voluminous top, then I'm usually wearing skinny jeans or form hugging pants for a more flattering silhouette.”

Kong adores sweater dusters, sweater dresses and sweater crops. These various forms of sweaters allow more flexibility of the outfit: casual, semi-formal, professional and more.
Celine Liptrot, freshman government and politics major with a concentration in international relations, wears her sweaters in all sorts of ways. Dressing herself in sweaters all year round, Liptrot often adapts the type of sweater to fit to the weather and occasion.
“I like to throw [sweaters] on with leggings whenever I’m bumming it,” Liptrot said. “I almost exclusively wear them with sneakers, and usually with no jacket or a jean jacket over [it].”

Liptrot also wears her sweaters with skirts, loose slacks and jeans. To get a more professional look, it’s important to keep in mind different factors of the outfit: the sweater type and material, the bottoms, the color scheme and the type of shoes.
