Post-election merch must-haves

Between shirts, hats, sweatpants, necklaces, sweatshirts and of course masks, there is no shortage of voting merch thanks to the recent presidential election. Merch is available in a variety of slogans, benefits different causes and comes at various price points. The 2020 presidential election has been unprecedented, and for a lot of college students across the country, this was the first time they were able to vote.
Black Voters Matter T-shirt
The Black Voters Matter Fund is an organization founded with the goal of increasing power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities and they plan on doing so by informing Black Americans of their right to vote and helping them get registered and get out there.
This Black Voter Matter hoodie is selling for $40, and all the proceeds go towards supporting the BVM movement.
By purchasing a BVM hoodie or any other merch available on their website, you are helping people, who would otherwise not be able to, get out and vote.
Rock the Vote Mask
You can never have enough masks in a time like this, and why not get one to show that you did your civic duty, for only $12.
The Rock the Vote campaign is a nonprofit, progressive-aligned campaign aimed at getting young people out to vote.
“I bought it a while ago… I started sort of collecting masks after the pandemic started,” said Rowan Mohan, a freshman public policy major at the University of Maryland.
This election year, young people in America set records when it came to voting, so a Rock the Vote mask only seems right.
Rock the Vote Coffee Mug
For those who aren’t a fan of buying t-shirts or sweaters that express political opinions, there is still a world of merch available.
From coffee mugs to laptop cases, there are a lot of options to catch your interest.
Buying things like this “Rock the Vote” mug is a great way to support any given cause without openly displaying it.
Andrew Yang “Not Left. Not Right. Forward” t-shirt
This election season has been crazy for everyone involved and there is nothing wrong with not loving current President Donald Trump or President-elect Joe Biden.
“I like it like any shirt I have. I still wear it pretty regularly, but I bought it primarily to support Yang’s campaign,” said Jerold Massie, a junior journalism major at the University of Maryland.
Though Andrew Yang might no longer be an option for president, his merch is still available.
Progressive Turnout Project Sweatpants
The Progressive Turnout Project is a grassroots organization geared toward getting people out to the polls.
Among other things, they are selling “Resist. Organize. Vote.” sweatpants for $45 on their website. The sizes range from small to 3X.
Gen-Z for Biden Hoodie
“Gen-Z for Biden” is a political group made up of young Tik Tokers, part of Generation Z. Multiple creators on Tik Tok started Gen-Z for Biden with the hopes of supporting the then-presidential candidate and now President-elect Joe Biden, and helping to inform the Tik Tok community about the candidate’s platform
The group sells a variety of merchandise ranging from t-shirts to tote bags, but the hoodies have been the most popular.
“I’ve become a little obsessed with Tik Tok over the years, so when Gen-Z for Biden started I knew I wanted a hoodie,” said Deanna Cohen, a sophomore government and politics, and criminology double major at the University of Maryland.
“Make America Great Again” Hat
Arguably the most well-known part of the Trump Campaign is the “Make America Great Again” hat, often seen being worn by Trump supporters as well as by President Trump himself.
The hat can be purchased for $30 on the Donald Trump apparel website. This now iconic red hat is a must-have for Trump supporters.
Biden-Harris T-shirt
The Biden-Harris t-shirt, arguably the most well-known merch item of the Biden-Harris campaign, sells for $30 on the Joe Biden store website.
From size XS to XXXL, this shirt is very inclusive in its sizing. The same design is also available on hoodies, bags, and sweatpants when they are in stock.
The Biden-Harris campaign teamed up with several luxury designers including, but not limited to, Vera Wang, Jason Wu and Tory Burch. The involved designers created everything from bucket hats to t-shirts as well, as a collection known as the “Believe in Better” collection which featured jewelry, scarves and more.
Though the Biden-Harris t-shirt is a good option when looking for Biden-Harris merch, there are many more options all more interesting than the last.
After the historic election that we just experienced, it’s about time to get the image of the electoral college map out of our heads, and what better way to do that than shopping and displaying our right to vote all in one.
