The Oscars took place on March 12, where Halle Bailey, famous for being a part of the Béyonce-signed duo Chloe x Halle, and famous actress Melissa McCarthey made history.
The two presented the world premiere of Disney’s official trailer for “The Little Mermaid” live action movie, coming out in May. The movie will be starring Halle Bailey as Ariel and Melissa McCarthey as Ursula.
In the trailer, we get to see the beautiful shots below the water and hear Bailey’s exceptional princess-like vocals as she stars as Ariel. The trailer starts out with Ariel saving Prince Eric and bringing him back to shore as she quickly goes back underwater when palace guards find Prince Eric on the shore. When Ariel gets back to her home base, King Triton talks about how Ariel broke the rules by going up into the real world. Triton warns Ariel she needs to stop with her obsession with humans, but Ariel just wants to learn about them. The trailer then skips to the first time we get to hear and see McCarthy as Ursula. Ursula tells Ariel she has to become a human with feet and of course, like the original movie, she has to give her voice. Ursula completes the transformation and she goes up to land. The trailer ends with Bailey’s beautiful rendition of the iconic “Part of Your World” as different scenes flash.
I am beyond excited for this movie as I love “The Little Mermaid” and I love Chloe x Halle. To me, they couldn’t have picked a better person to play Ariel because Halle to me sounds like she needs to be a princess. She has this sweet voice and insane range that really leaves you with goosebumps every time she sings. The subtle red hair on her looks amazing and I know she will do this iconic film justice. Ursula is also perfectly casted because McCarthey with her sinister voice and amazing mannerisms will really work well together in unison.
I also reached out to a few University of Maryland students and asked them if they will be seeing the movie whether they stream it or see it in theaters.
“The Little Mermaid” was one of my favorite movies growing up and one of my favorite princesses growing up. Today, she is still one of my favorite princesses. My inner child is screaming and I am so excited to see the new movie,” said sophomore biology major Sydney Chanell.
Sophomore hearing and speech major Paige McGinnis said, “I’m excited to see the new ‘The Little Mermaid’ movie because I love Disney and I think that they could do a really good job with this story.”
I think everyone gave really good answers and I can’t wait to see the full movie when it hits theaters on May 26th. Will you be seeing the new rendition of “The Little Mermaid?”
