Recently, certain makeup and skincare products face an increase in demand as new brands emerge and become popular. Students at the University of Maryland shared their favorite up-and-coming brands and some of their all-time favorites.
Keira Hardesty, a freshman journalism major, enjoys the lesser-known brand called Origins for skincare. “I feel like not a lot of people know about it but I have this tinted moisturizer from there with SPF… it feels so good on your face,” she said. “And I feel like nobody knows about it so I always want to promote it.”. Along with Origins, Hardesty was also a fan of EltaMD for its sun protection and redness-reducing products. She also mentioned the Watermelon Glow Pink Juice Oil-Free Refillable Moisturizer, a product that has recently taken off.
Hardesty also mentioned her favorite mainstream products that are hot right now.
“Recently I’ve really been getting into the Tarte maracuja little lip gloss… I have the plumping one and the regular one and I think they are so cute,” Hardesty said.
Hardesty was not alone in her high regard for Tarte products. Freshman criminology and psychology major Jillian Ceritelli shared a similar opinion.
“I really like Rare Beauty and Tarte,” she said, adding that her favorite skincare brand is CeraVe and thinks they are so popular because they have products for all skin types. Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez and Tarte have become popular recently for their reliable and high quality products.
Freshman journalism and public policy major Tess Phillips is a Campus Trendsetter with HerCampus Media. In this role, she partners with various brands to showcase their products to college students.
e.l.f., which stands for “EyesLipFace” and is read as “elf,” has recently had a major rise in popularity due to their low prices for makeup products with similar results to more high-end companies. The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush is typically 23 dollars. However, the e.l.f. Camo Liquid Blush yields similar results for only seven dollars.
As for skincare, Phillips doesn’t ever see herself switching away from Cetaphil products. “I know [Cetaphil’s] really common and super popular, but I think their face wash and their moisturizer is just so solid,” she said.
With a constantly changing beauty industry, keeping up with the most popular and rising products is a must.
