New York Fashion Week just wrapped up, and while It was booming with so many new and innovative styles, University of Maryland students do not seem to know or care much about the event.
Is our school lacking students that care about fashion? Is it Gen Z in general that lacks an interest in organized events like Fashion Week? Are students perhaps too busy with college life to pay attention to the glamorous models and runway looksNew York?
Freshman journalism major Vienne Istvan has a unique view on why she did not care to watch NYFW. “I don’t keep up with Fashion Week because I’m uninterested in mainstream fashion in general. I’d rather base what I wear off of what I personally think is fashionable,” she said. “I’m not saying the clothes at fashion week are bad, I would just rather have the clothing I wear be my creative outlet. I don’t want to be influenced by others when it comes to my wardrobe.”
Sophomore architecture major Mina Mantel did watch NYFW, and commented that “the dresses were nice, but I definitely have a preference for women’s styles as opposed to men’s, those were ugly.”
Although this is a very insightful and creative comment on NYFW and fashion in general, here is the rundown on all things fashion week 2022.
New York Fashion Week was bursting with incredible new styles. The runway featured long leather coats, trench coats, low-cut necklines, miniskirts and so much more.
The jackets are perfect for a cool summer evening or a fresh autumn day in New York, but leather always seems to bring the look to the next level.
Mini skirts popular in the 60’s and 70’s are making a comeback, along with low rise jeans. Although the looks are planned to be released for Fall 2022, many of them could be worn in summer or spring.
There were many slinky dresses, shimmery clothes, and cool street styles.
Brown was dominant on the runways this season. From light to dark and every shade in between, this neutral shade was prominent on the runway.
Bucket hats were also a big hit and in all different ways, from khaki-colored to checkered print to fuzzy styles, these hats will be flying off the racks soon enough.
The runway at New York Fashion Week this year was filled with a little bit of everything, from reimagined vintage mini skirts to leather jackets. Get excited for these styles to be everywhere this fall.
