As the year comes to an end, it is time to take a look back at the most popular beauty and fashion trends of 2022. This past year, the internet was dominated by the “clean girl aesthetic,” light natural makeup looks, chrome Hailey Bieber nails and, especially, the classic blowout.
After the Dyson Airwrap took the internet by storm earlier this year, the sleek blowout became the go-to hairstyle of 2022. Although the Airwrap gives the perfect blowout, it costs nearly $600 at Sephora and other retail stores, making it inaccessible to many.
Due to the price, people, including myself, were forced to figure out how to achieve this look on a budget. Through trial and error, I’ve found a method for the salon-worthy blowout in just a few steps, without breaking the bank. Here is how to achieve the viral look:
Step 1: This first step is self-explanatory, but crucial. Start off by washing your hair with any shampoo and conditioner you prefer. Blowing out hair when it’s clean ensures that your blowout look can last you days.
Step 2: Once you are out of the shower, don’t start your blowout right away. Let your hair air dry for at least 20 minutes or until it is damp and not soaking wet. Attempting to blow out hair when it is soaking wet will take twice the amount of time and will damage your hair.
Step 3: As you wait for your hair to air dry, apply nourishing hair oils! Hair oils work as heat protectant, protect color, and fight frizz. Apply oils at the midway point and then work them down towards the ends of your hair. Some hair oils I recommend include the Olaplex No. 7 Bonding Hair Oil, Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Glossy Nourishing Hair Oil and the Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil. You can find these at any Sephora, Ulta Beauty or online.
Step 4: After oils are applied and hair is damp, it is time to section off your hair. Depending on the thickness of your hair, it is easiest to section off hair into four parts. Secure two sections in the front of your head and two sections in the back of your head with a clip or bobby pin. This ensures that each section dries evenly and is much faster than attempting to do it all at once.
Step 5: Now it is time to start drying! Use your preferred hair dryer to begin drying your hair as normal. As each piece dries completely, take a velcro roller or round barrel brush and roll the hair under and around, securing it tight and close to the scalp. Rolling your hair while hot will help it hold the curl of the roller or brush. If you have bangs make sure to blowout your bangs, roll, and secure them up towards the top of your head.
Step 6: Once your hair is secured, leave the rollers in anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. This makes sure that when you take the rollers out, the curls don’t immediately fall out. The longer you wait, the more voluminous your curls will be. Step 7: The final step of the blowout process is the removal of the rollers. Begin removing the rollers, taking out the rollers that have sat the longest first. As you pull them out, twist them counterclockwise to give them a little extra curl. Once all the rollers are removed take a brush, preferably a brush with bristles that are spaced far apart, and gently brush through your hair. This gives the hair movement and separation and helps soften the shape while also making the curls less intense.
Make sure your hair is 100% dry and then you are good to go! This hairstyle is timeless and goes with any outfit for any occasion. It may take some practice at first, but is overall pretty simple and perfect for this holiday season!
