So far 2024 contains a stacked lineup of music and Billie Eilish is joining that roster. Three incredible albums brought her career to life, but it’s been three years since her last project “Happier Than Ever.” This upcoming musical era comes after her second Oscar win with the haunting ballad “What Was I Made For.”
Eilish began teasing her third album on “The Cookout”, which is a radio show where artists stop by to chat with host Eliott King.
“I’ve listened to her for a while since middle school, and I’m kind of excited to see …where her music’s going and what direction she’s taking., ” said sophomore psychology major Caitlyn Mclnerney.
After almost seven months of making small hints towards her release, Billie Eilish recently posted a series of photos of the album on her close friend's Instagram story.
Eilish must have put all of her followers on it –which was her way of being sly with the release. Finally on April 11, Eilish posted the album cover with a release date. “Hit Me Hard And Soft” will drop on May 17th with no singles dropping beforehand. Her third studio album details are a secret for the most part besides the cover.
“I really liked her last one “Happier Than Ever” …. I sort of have a feeling that it’s going to be an extension of the Barbie song “What Was I Made For?” I feel like that did really well so she might do more ballads but I honestly have no idea. There’s no single. I’m excited.” said junior government & politics and secondary social studies double major Declan Kirby.
It can be guaranteed that her new album will be filled with creatively produced songs and thought-provoking lyrics. Every song released by the nine-time Grammy-award winner is written by a tight-knit group of people, usually only her and Finneas. Finneas is her older brother who has produced every track Eilish has put out. It will be interesting to see what direction she will embark on sound wise in this new era.
Eilish advertised lyrics along highways in Los Angeles and New York City, giving passerbyers a sneak peak into her new album, according to Billboard. Both “WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?” and “Happier Than Ever,” sound drastically different and tell much different stories. There usually is a central theme that connects each project’s songs to one another, which will be interesting to find on May 17.
