College Park offers a plethora of unique date spots both on and off campus. Whether that is sitting somewhere outside on campus, going to Stamp Student Union for a quick bite or some Terpzone bowling, or finding a new restaurant to try on Baltimore Avenue, there are a variety of options.
Jake Infantino, a freshman enrolled in letters and sciences, says one of his favorite date spots is La Plata Beach.
“I like to sit on the beach on a blanket when it’s nice outside,” he said. “It is fun to listen to people play sports.” Places like La Plata Beach offer a simple and free option for a date while trying to stay within a budget.
Stamp Student Union is also home to many establishments that function as dating spots. The Maryland Dairy, which is unique for having homemade ice cream, is popular.
Junior public health and sciences major Fern Holt loves getting handcrafted flavors. However, one downside to going on a date in Stamp, according to Holt, is that it is not “a very intimate or romantic atmosphere, but is convenient.”
Holt prefers to go on dates off campus. One of her most recent finds is Tacos A La Madre. According to Holt, they have the best tacos in College Park. She recommends their shrimp tacos and homemade chips and salsa.
Tacos A La Madre is more romantic than an on-campus date spot because it “is tucked away in a neighborhood and has a very bright and minimalist atmosphere,” said Holt. The restaurant offers cheaper options and also has family bundles, making this an affordable spot for college students.
Another well-known date spot located both on-campus and off-campus is Starbucks. Freshman nutrition and dietetics major, Elise Roen, finds the off-campus Starbucks to be a lively atmosphere for her FaceTime dates with her long-distance boyfriend. Along with Starbucks in the College Park Shopping Center, there are other places for dates such as Five Guys, Noodles & Company, Coldstone, and so many more.
Starbucks employee and junior economics major, Connor Kennedy., finds it to be a popular location for college students in relationships. Multiple friends of his have gone there for first dates, he said.
Kennedy believes it is a popular date spot for multiple reasons. “It is nice because you get to know the person’s taste. Coffee is relatable and you do not have to invent small talk, but you also feel safe,” he said.
Starbucks offers a variety of options which can be customizable to customers’ tastes, with prices varying from item-to-item. Kennedy recommends the Iced Chocolate Almondmilk Shaken Espresso. Coincidentally, Roen also loves the almondmilk shaken espressos, including the brown sugar one.
There are many places on-campus and off-campus for students to go on dates. Most places offer a variety of options and a romantic atmosphere allowing for affordability and an overall great date spot.
