With summer now drawing to a close, it’s time to look forward to the cool, breeziness of fall. The leaves will change colors, the temperature will get cooler, the sun will set earlier, but most importantly, fall music will finally start making its way into our lives. With every season comes new songs, which means new playlists. Whether you’re a fan of pop, country, R&B, rock, indie, or anything else, there are tons of songs out there that scream: “Fall is finally here.” University of Maryland students shared their top picks to create the ultimate fall playlist. Vivian Renkey, a sophomore journalism major, enjoys genres such as EDM and indie. When she was asked about what songs she would add to a fall playlist, she noted that she listens to more soothing music during this time of year. “I’d say a very fall song is ‘La Femme Parallel,’ by the Thievery Corporation,” Renkey said. “I kind of like ‘Just Like a Movie,’ by Wallows, that’s a good song as well.” Nothing says fall more than a meaningful, mellow song reflecting on what has passed. Maddy Camp, a sophomore criminology major, said that she would add “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault)” to her fall playlist. Sara Silverman, a sophomore journalism major, took a different approach to the playlist in terms of tone. When asked about her music taste, she had this to say: “I guess, uplifting, fun and moving.” Her song choices for the playlist were “Good Luck, Babe!” by Chappell Roan, and “BIRDS OF A FEATHER,” by Billie Eilish. There are countless songs that can be added to the perfect fall playlist, and doing some research online can help to make sure some great songs are accounted for. According to SELF, some other songs that are fitting for a fall playlist include: “Rhiannon,” by Fleetwood Mac, “Mess is Mine,” by Vance Joy and “Ophelia,” by The Lumineers. Music and its essence can capture any feeling, event, moment or memory in people’s lives. It unites groups of people and creates an atmosphere that is truly magical. Whether you make playlists for moods, seasons, occasions, or just for fun, music is an escape from reality and a submergence into relaxation and ease.
