Within the first two months of classes, music enthusiasts at the University of Maryland have already witnessed some of their favorite artists perform live for some late-night fun.

Chloe Marshall, a sophomore at UMD, attended the TWINSICK concert at Echostage, a concert hall in Washington, D.C. on the night of Friday, Sept. 19.

TWINSICK is a music duo, primarily known for their remixes and mash-ups of songs. Marshall paid $30 for the ticket and was driven to the venue by a friend.

“I think it's good for college students to do things in the surrounding areas off campus and to have a change in scenery with their friends,” Marshall said.

For college students, this is more crucial than ever.

According to an article discussing how performing arts influences college students, BMC Public Health found research studies that concluded concerts and arts activities promote mental health, immune response and social connection in young adults.

“I think it's really good in terms of relieving stress,” said UMD journalism student, Sol Garcia-Terrazas.

Garcia-Terrazas attended a concert for the pop band Disclosure on Thursday at Echostage. She took an Uber to the venue and paid $50 for her ticket.

“It was super energetic,” she said. “There were a lot of college kids who were excited to see them that hadn't yet gotten the chance to.”

Garcia-Terrazas said everyone was dancing and being respectful of each other’s space inside the venue.

“At UMD, we have a really big work culture,” she said. “It's important to have outlets for creativity, to just relax and be in the moment. Concerts are really great for that.”

Many UMD students, including Garcia-Terrazas, attended the annual outdoor musical festival, All Things Go, in Columbia, Maryland. The festival lasted three days from Sept. 26 to Sept. 28.

The festival had merchandise, food, drinks, and of course, many stage performances.

Fans got to watch their favorite artists, including Noah Kahan, Clairo, Kesha, The Marías, Doechii, Faye Webster and more.

There are a variety of concerts being held across Maryland and Washington, D.C in the upcoming months.

Halsey is performing a concert at The Anthem on Nov. 4 and the CFG Bank Arena is holding a Maroon 5 concert on Nov. 16. The Jonas Brothers will also be performing at the CFG Bank Arena on Dec. 20.

These concerts are great opportunities for students to hang out with their friends on a night off. Even after returning home with tired feet and sore legs, it will be a night to remember.

What concert will you attend next?
