The popular Regency era TV show, “Bridgerton,” has finally made its steamy return for a second season with a new popular romance forming between the two main characters. The show has also introduced many new fashion trends that are sure to make an appearance this spring season.
“Bridgerton” attracted a lot of attention when season 1 came out, and it led to a renewed popularity of corsets in the fashion world. With “Bridgerton” season 2 dropping on Netflix, the question is what new trends will the show introduce this time around?
A Vogue article attempted to answer this by looking into what key fashion terms have been searched more often as of late.
One of the predicted trends is floral dresses. Following the show’s premiere, there has been an 146% increase in searches for floral dresses, according to Vogue.
Freshman nursing major Kristen Szuchy also recognized the abundance of floral dresses seen on the show and agreed that she wanted to purchase one for herself.
“I liked how a lot of the dresses were pastel. Pastels for a fun spring moment,” she said.
Another trend predicted to make a statement this season is opera gloves. While it may be hard to imagine easily pairing gloves with a look, this may just be the new reality. Vogue reports that there has been an 63% increase in searches. While this seems like an interesting new trend, it definitely has potential.
Freshman marketing major Caroline Edelen’s favorite look from this season is one that includes elegant white gloves.
The look she described is pictured below, and she said, “I think Kate looks incredible. I just love how the jewels on the dress look and I think it’s simple yet poised.”
Another trend that is sure to be seen this spring is a variety of hair pieces such as crowns and headbands. Many of the characters' outfits include hair adornment that ranges from jeweled headbands to elegant tiaras.
While the hair accessories we see this spring may not be as elaborate as the ones pictured in the show, more simple pieces like this headband are likely to be incorporated into many spring outfits.
It may seem difficult to incorporate some of these seemingly lavish and decorative trends into your typical college outfits, but this is not the case. Another popular trend the show has brought about is pearls. Throwing on a pearl necklace or earrings with your outfit is easy and can add something extra to a simple outfit.
While the fashion in “Bridgerton” is inspired by the regency-era, it is not entirely accurate. This makes the style much more adaptable to today’s modern fashion, reintroducing many fads that are sure to make a comeback.Take note of just how many times you see someone rocking a floral dress, opera gloves, or even a jeweled headpiece this year.
