Summer playlist- opinion piece

Finals season is fast approaching. It's been a long school year, and right around the corner is summer vacation. For some students like me, we are leaving the University of Maryland for good after graduation and plan to go on exciting trips. I wanted to make a playlist that perfectly captures that summer feeling. Whether you are tanning in Costa Rica, partying in Ibiza or simply getting some rays on your porch at home, there is music for everyone to listen to in this playlist.
To decide what songs to put on this playlist, I combined calmer music that is perfect to relax to but also include some high-energy tracks that you can dance to.
To broaden listener’s horizons, I featured many different genres, including K-pop, to introduce people to a new kind of music that maybe they’re not familiar with. There is a range of music from big-name artists to spotlightingartists and tracks that fit the perfect vibes for this upcoming summer but are smaller and lesser known.
Creating a playlist for the summer is essential. People bring their speakers to the beach or simply want to take a rinse in their outdoor shower to some tunes. There is plenty of variety in music, and I made sure to balance the party tracks with some relaxing songs.
Summer is all about having fun or simply taking a break from your mind: no school, no responsibilities. Artists range from Britney Spears or Lorde to FLO to Sade. There are oldies along with new top hits because there are opportunities to learn about music that maybe you wouldn’t think to listen to right off the bat. Some examples of this are “Forget Me Nots,” “Paradise,” etc. They all just have that summer vibe to them.
