Prevent the struggles of heat damage by incorporating simple, but effective steps in your hair routine.
According to Living Proof, a hair product and care company with a focus on clean hair care products, using heat on your hair without the proper protection does more than make your hair dry.
Living Proof explains that heat affects the outer and inner layer of hair, and by putting too much heat on your hair or by not using protection, the proteins in your hair are damaged and your hair will become dry and brittle.
Preventing excessive heat damage is easier than you may expect. When looking to begin a healthier hair journey, the less heat you use on your hair the better.
Although reducing heat on your hair can make a difference, it is not easy, particularly when you have natural hair that you prefer to style differently.
When you do use heat, it is important to apply some form of heat protectant to mitigate the damage.
Heat protectant sprays and serums act as a barrier between your hair and the styling tools preventing damage, according to Living Proof.

By adding a serum to damp hair, or spraying protectant on your hair before heat styling, you can improve both the texture and appearance of your hair in the final product, while also keeping it healthy.

Meghan Gray a freshman kinesiology major says that she uses heat on her hair and does not use a heat protectant. She feels that when she uses heat on her hair she notices her hair is dryer and tends to need haircuts more often. A heat protectant could greatly benefit her as a layer of protection when using heat.
With so many heat protectants on the market, it is important to do some research before purchasing to find what will be best suited to you and your hair type. Customers should look out for moisturizing ingredients like silicones, natural oils and amino acids, according to it’s a 10 haircare.
Incorporating a heat protectant into your hair care routine is essential to maintaining soft, shiny and healthy hair, and still being able to style it how you wish.
