Ariana Grande has been working overtime: filming two almost three-hour length movies for “Wicked” playing her dream role Glinda and releasing a surprise full album that swept the nation’s hearts.
“eternal sunshine” is her most vulnerable album, putting to rest a lot of the rumors that circulated around her new and old relationship. She rose above it, and after a year of the album with multiple #1 hit songs, she released a deluxe version alongside a short film. Grande is one of the hardest working women out there, directing her project in between filming two of the biggest films in the last decade.
“brighter days ahead” highlights Grande’s ability to continue the realm of “eternal sunshine” and add more insight into her feelings. “Dandelion” is a stand-out track that sounds different from the rest of the project. The song sounds like a “thank u next” track and is more of a darker synth-pop route. It is about what she provides in a relationship, comparing that whatever her partner wishes for is similar to how you make a wish blowing on the dandelion and it will come true. She is in love, and it is a lighter-feeling track than the others on the album. It is her most honest work, telling the world what happened from her perspective.
The short film is a continuation of the “we can’t be friends” music video with Grande playing Peaches, someone who is trying to erase her memories of this relationship that took a large toll on her mental health. Now, she is reliving her past at the Brighter Days clinic and reflecting on her career.
It reminds us as the audience that one day, our favorite artists will grow old and move onto a different stage of life. They can look back and appreciate what happened to them during their lives with gratitude, even the ups and downs life presents. With over 20 minutes of Grande reflecting, it is a very emotional video, and Grande co-directed it, making it even more special. Without the film and videos, the music can speak for itself, but it transports us viewers into a world inspired by the movie “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.”
The last few years of Grande’s career have been filled with so much content: a hit worldwide film, a new era of music and now a short film to top it off. She has been working overtime to make sure the fans didn’t feel any gaps while she was filming “Wicked.”
Every single time she releases, we learn more about her mind and get to experience events that transpired that helped her heal as a person. Music is therapy for Grande, and instead of wallowing in it, she makes music to which other people can relate. She does a great job talking about her experiences and the highs and lows that come with relationships.
